The Korean animation movie “Letter from Yeon” has recently started its pre-production process. Along with announcing its main voice cast, the promising webtoon-adapted animation has impressively secured an invitation from a prestigious global animation film festival.
“Letter from Yeon”: A New Webtoon-Adapted Korean Animation Movie
South Korea has recently found a promising future in its Korean animation industry. Various Korean anime series have recently gained global popularity. Then, it started skyrocketing even higher with the latest release of “Heartsping: Teenieping of Love,” a prequel film of the Korean animation series, “Catch! Teenieping.”
With the rising interest in animation films and series, the country has now started the pre-production process of another webtoon-based animation, “Letter from Yeon.”
“Letter from Yeon” is an upcoming Korean animation movie based on a webtoon with the same title. This feature-length project tells the story of a female student who found a mysterious letter from Ho Yeon after transferring to a rural school.
The original work is a popular Korean webtoon with the same title by author Jo Hyun Ah. The series was published as a 10-part summer special on Naver Webtoon in 2018. Then, it immediately gained a powerful fanbase with a stellar rating of 9.98. “Letter from Yeon” webtoon series was an impressive bestseller both in the digital and conventional versions.
“Letter from Yeon” Storyline
In the webtoon version, the story revolves around the main character, Sori. She is a 17-year-old female student who is kind-hearted and principled beyond her years.
Previously, in an attempt to stand up for a friend from being bullied, Sori found herself becoming the target instead. The bullies shifted their focus to her, and she became the victim of relentless harassment. As a result, she had to endure the pain and isolation of group bullying in her old school.
Due to the horrible bullying, Sori then transferred to a rural school to escape the horrifying environment. And this is where everything begins.
In this new school, Soori discovers a letter left by Jung Ho Yeon. Ho Yeon was a student who once sat in the same seat as her. What’s more intriguing is that the letters seem to have been left specifically for her.
And so, with these letters, Sori started searching for answers, leading her to explore a hidden world within the school. These letters, written by an anonymous guardian angel, are designed to help Sori navigate her new environment and find comfort.
Therefore, as Sori follows the clues, she uncovers more unexpected secrets. They then helps her learn about the importance of friendship. Moreover, she also discovers and realizes more the beauty in her new surroundings.
“Letter from Yeon” is a story about finding a new hope when your life seems to be falling into desperation.
Pre-Production Begins with Invitation to Global Film Festival
And now, the beautiful storyline of “Letter from Yeon” will soon turn into a promising Korean animation movie. The pre-production recently began for this project, revealing the first cast who will voice the main character Sori: Lee Suhyun of AKMU.
“When I heard that The Letter of Hoyeon, which I enjoyed so much, was being adapted into an animation, I was eager to see it before anyone else, and I decided to take on this challenge because it felt like an honorable opportunity to perform with my original voice.”

On top of everything, this new Korean animation movie, “Letter from Yeon,” has also received an official invitation to the Special Screening section at this year’s Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF).
The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is one of the three major animation film festivals worldwide. Along with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the AnimaFest Zagreb, they form the largest animation film festival in North America.

This global animation festival will occur from September 25 to 29, 2024. After premiering in this global festival, “Letter from Yeon” will announce its final release date.
