Bringing Generative AI to Fashion Design
South Korean gaming giant NCSOFT Corp. is extending its artificial intelligence ambitions beyond gaming and into the fashion industry. Its AI subsidiary, NC AI, has entered a strategic partnership with Fashion Group Hyungji Co., one of Korea’s leading apparel makers, to deploy machine-learning tools for design, marketing, and production.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the two companies, Hyungji will implement NC AI’s VARCO Art Fashion platform across its design, sales, and marketing operations. The platform utilizes generative AI trained on fashion industry language and image datasets to produce product drafts, model visuals, and promotional content.
The technology also supports fabric modification, 2D-to-3D design conversion, and virtual fitting, enabling apparel brands to preview products before production and streamline creative workflows. This integration aims to boost Hyungji’s design efficiency and innovation pipeline as it modernizes its digital infrastructure.
Game Tech Meets the Runway
Founded in 1998, Fashion Group Hyungji manages more than 20 clothing brands in South Korea, specializing in women’s casual wear for consumers aged 30 to 50. The company plans to use AI tools from NCSOFT to enhance creative output and respond faster to market trends.
NC AI, which was spun off from NCSOFT in early 2025, is expanding the game maker’s deep-learning technology into new industries such as fashion, retail, and entertainment. The AI unit’s VARCO suite—originally built to generate images, dialogues, and voices for games—has already been adopted by domestic fashion leaders like F&F Co. and Shinsegae International Inc. The company is also negotiating with about ten additional brands interested in deploying its AI solutions.

NCSOFT’s growing focus on AI aligns with the company’s broader push to diversify beyond gaming amid a cooling domestic market and rising development costs. The firm is also a key participant in South Korea’s sovereign AI initiative, a national program aimed at building homegrown large-scale language models independent of U.S. tech giants.
