Nexon Korea Announces Release Date for “Mabinogi Mobile”

On February 6, Nexon Korea released a 20-minute online showcase video on its official YouTube channel. In this video, the giant company dropped a massive bombshell, unveiling details and the release date of one of its biggest franchises, “Mabinogi Mobile.”
In the video “Mabinogi Mobile,” director Kim Dong Geon of Nexon Korea development studio DevCAT, revealed that the company has been working very hard in maintaining the core essence of its 2004 classic Mabinogi. They have successfully reconstructed all the romance and fantasy of the original Mabinogi, bringing them up for the ultimate showcase and performance in the mobile environment.
This cross-platform MMORPG is the first sequel of the original Mabinogi that fans have waited for approximately 15 years. The 2004 classic Mabinogi has now become one of Korea’s longest-running MMORPGs, entering its 21st year of service.

Developed by DevCAT of Nexon Korea, “Mabinogi Mobile” is an upcoming cross-platform MMORPG for PC and mobile, based on the company’s 2004 flagship title, Mabinogi.
As the sequel of the Nexon Korea classic, “Mabinogi Mobile” will follow the storylines from Generations 1 to 3 (G1–G3) of the original game. This highly anticipated Korean MMORPG will also integrate familiar locations and characters from “Mabinogi Heroes (Vindictus)” while introducing brand-new, original characters to the series. As a result, the new MMORPG game will give you the perfect blend of nostalgia and brand-new adventure.
Most importantly, “Mabinogi Mobile” will keep you busy not only with its impressive combat system but also with various life activities like fishing, gathering, campfires, and music performances. After all, these wonderful features had been the very staples of the original game—a charming notion that makes the game incredibly stand out among its peers.

8 Years and 1 Trillion KRW In the Making – Nexon Korea Bets Big on “Mabinogi Mobile”
As one of the biggest projects of Nexon Korea, “Mabinogi Mobile” takes 8 years in the making. The game was first announced at Nexon’s 2017 Mabinogi showcase event and featured multiple times at G-STAR, Korea’s largest gaming expo. However, its release was repeatedly delayed, and it finally launched this year.
Not only that, Nexon Korea also financed the game’s development by providing 400 billion KRW (approximately $276.44 million USD) to DevCAT in 2021, later increasing its total investment to 1.04 trillion KRW ($718.74 million USD) over four separate funding rounds.
Originally an in-house studio within Nexon Korea, DevCAT then became independent in 2020 as a joint venture between Nexon and Wonder Holdings. Therefore, after considering the expenses incurred during the in-house development phase, the total development cost far exceeds 1 trillion KRW ($691.1 million USD).
