So, what is this Chestnut Tiramisu, and why does the Korean convenience store CU seem to be highly interested in the dish?
The rising fame of Chestnut Tiramisu stems from Chef Napoli Mafia from the Korean cooking show “Culinary Class Wars.” During episode 8, “Culinary Class Wars” assigned its contestants to create special dishes from convenience store products, sponsored by CU convenience store.
Hence, in this episode, Chef Napoli Mafia decided to make a dish from various Korean convenience store sweets. He believed that since many of the contestants would have made something savory, he decided to choose something sweet as a special dessert for the judges.
Gathering various snacks and products from Korean convenience stores, Napoli Mafia then created a dessert called Chestnut Tiramisu. And immediately, the dish gained rave reviews from the judges. They claimed that even when it was all made from convenience store products, Napoli Mafia’s Chestnut Tiramisu tasted like a luxurious dessert from a hotel.
“How did he make it so balanced with such unfamiliar ingredients?
This (Chestnut Tiramisu) tasted like an expensive dessert you’d get at a hotel.”
Chef Ahn Sung Jae, “Culinary Class Wars” Judge.
