A new virtual Kpop idol is set to soon make her entrance into the Korean music scene. This time, it’s one of the Big 4 Kpop companies in South Korea that has decided to jump on the bandwagon of this emerging trend. The prominent Kpop label, SM Entertainment, will soon debut a new virtual idol with an impressive visual quality, Naevis. But will her skill set be as brilliant as her visuals? Here’s the very first look at SM Entertainment’s new virtual idol and former navigator of aespa, Naevis.
SM Entertainment Officially Announces Debut of First Virtual Kpop Idol, Naevis
South Korea has indeed been raving on its virtual Kpop productions and AI design. Previously, South Korea has been making innovations with the impressive breakthrough of PLAVE, a virtual Kpop group with BTS-level chart achievement in the Korean music industry. Today, it is the turn of SM Entertainment, one of the big four giant Kpop companies in South Korea, to jump on the train and debut its very first virtual idol, Naevis.
After a long preparation period, SM Entertainment finally announced the official debut of Naevis, its very first virtual Kpop idol with impressive graphics and AI technology. She was once a part of the initial metaverse concept of aespa, a navigator to assist aespa’s avatars to appear in the real world.
However, SM Entertainment then decided to ditch the KWANGYA concept and rebrand aespa. And so, Naevis disappeared with the rest of aespa’s “ae” avatars following the SM Culture Universe finale.
Afterward, SM Entertainment decided to pull Naevis out of the KWANGYA concept and introduced her as a solo virtual artist of the company.
As the initial transition of this concept, Naevis made her very first appearance in the “real world” in collaboration with aespa in “Welcome to MY World (Feat. naevis).” This music video featured the very first glimpses of Naevis after its departure from the KWANGYA universe, following its removal from aespa’s concept.
More than a year after her appearance in aespa’s MV, SM Entertainment finally confirmed the debut of Naevis as its first virtual Kpop idol. The company has opened a series of social media accounts and an introduction teaser of Naevis debut.
Naevis’s First Look: A Blend of Advanced Computer Graphic and AI-Generated Voice
Unlike other regular virtual Kpop idols, Naevis seems to be on a whole different level in terms of technology and quality.
In terms of her vocal production, SM Entertainment has reportedly utilized top-notch voice generated with AI-powered voice synthesis, allowing for a highly realistic and adaptable vocal performance.
At the same time, the company created her impressively gorgeous visuals and animations using advanced cutting-edge computer graphics. It will allow Naevis to deliver a seamless, high-quality appearance and interact across various digital platforms and media.
What’s more impressive is that beyond just her visual and vocal elements, Naevis’s content is also largely AI-generated. It means that her actions, movements, and interactions are under artificial intelligence controls.
Therefore, it allows SM Entertainment to expand Naevis’s presence across multiple platforms, including music, webtoons, games, and brand collaborations. This multifaceted approach will make Naevis a versatile figure in both the virtual and real worlds. She will be able to tap into the growing trend of virtual idols, making more breakthroughs in the Korean entertainment industry.
As of today, Naevis will reportedly debut with various activities starting on September 10, 2024, at 6 PM KST. These activities will establish her as a prominent figure in Kpop and beyond, creating a brand-new IP for SM Entertainment.
